Extra Wide-Bottomed Stainless Steel Travel Coffee Mugs

Most insulated travel coffee mugs are tall and skinny so that they can fit into a car’s cup holder but if you’ve ever used a travel tumbler either at a desk or around the house then you know that they can be a bit top heavy and cumbersome. Some older cars don’t even have cup holders meaning these travel mugs are just about impossible to use.

In my own home I use a wide bottomed travel mug almost every day. I work at a desk and I don’t commute so I see no need to use something so top heavy. My favorite wide bottomed travel mug to use is a lower end stainless steel mug by Trudeau, the Umbria.

It’s not going to keep coffee hot all day long but it does keep it hot for a few hours and warm for most of the first half of the day.

Below you’ll see the Umbria along with a number of alternatives. They are all stainless steel mugs. Some are vacuum insulated others are not and pricing will usually reflect that.

The Stainless Steel Mugs Have Better Insulation

If you opened up any of the above links to see product details you probably noticed these mugs cost a little more than a lot of our bestsellers.

The reason for this is that the stainless models tend to be better insulated. They use double wall insulation and in some cases vacuum sealed walls devoid of air.

Personally I think it’s overkill to use a vacuum insulated mug around my desk all day. I don’t ever load up on enough coffee to really need the extra heat retention but some people do like taking these cups on the road and that would mean insulation and leak resistance is more important.

Even still the price for these high end mugs is not a whole lot more than the lower priced plastic or ceramic mugs that many people buy as alternatives.

If you are really looking to break out of the box then let me invite you to take a look at our collection of large mugs too. Some of them are really sweet.
